Petroleum is a name given to any form of naturally occurring hydrocarbons trapped beneath the earth’s surface. These include gasoline, airplane fuel, kerosene, acetone, polypropelen, xylene, benzene and naptha. The United States produces approximately 5.2 million barrels of crude oil per day, but consumes an additional 15 million barrels per day. This additional demand is imported from other countries.
